Choose a Better Word Campaign

Housing & Residential Education's annual Choose a Better Word (CABW) campaign will run from October 1st to October 3rd. CABW inspired residents to reflect on the power of language and its impact on others' sense of belonging on campus. The event will include a traceling "Wall of Words" where students, staff, and faculty will write words they deem offensive/inappropriate and a Spoken Word event as the MSC Amphitheater, featuring Samira Obeid, a USF Graduate Student.

The event hopes to:
  • Define, explore examples of, and create awareness of microaggressions
  • Help students understand that their words have power and impact others' sense of belonging on campus
  • Provide students with strategies to engage others about their language choices

This program addresses the course objective of developing a respect for the role and responsibility that each individual plays as a connected and engaged citizen of diverse communities. We hope you will encourage your students to show support and participate.
