Spring 2014 Service Learning Projects

All Bulls are strongly encouraged to support the local community while at USF. The UE curriculum is designed to take this educational experience a step further as an officially designated Service Learning course. Below are three service project opportunities that have been specially selected for UE students.

1. Metropolitan Ministries
The service learning theme for this project is poverty. Your class can choose from a wide variety of activities:
  • help prepare meals
  • clean the facilities
  • assist clients in the Outreach Center (food/clothes shopping, resume writing, etc.)
  • collect or sort donated items
  • interact with children in the day care
To make arrangements for your class, contact Victoria Garos at 813-209-1237 or victoria.garos@metromin.org.

2. James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital
The service learning theme for this project is veterans. Your class can participate in the following ways:
  • interact with patients by assisting with an Ice Cream Social
  • collect toiletries and personal items for veterans transitioning out of the facility
Each class participating in this service project is encouraged to contact Tony Rivera (juan1@usf.edu) to arrange a "Got Your Six" presentation about interacting with veterans.

To make arrangements for your class, contact Cathy Williams at 813-972-2000, x6583 or
cathy.williams2@va.gov.
